Online Seminar “54th GST Council Meeting: Threadbare & Sectoral Analysis of Amendments” 20th September, 2024, Virtual Platform


The National Fiscal Affairs and Taxation Committee of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised an Online Seminar on Analysis of the Recommendations of the “54th GST Council Meeting” on 20th September, 2024 on Virtual Platform.

Shri D. P. Karnam, IAS, Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Government of West Bengal was the Chief Guest and discussed on the various decisions taken and the relief provided to the taxpayers by the ensuing GST Amnesty Scheme for the first three years of GST wherein certain taxpayers can pay merely the tax portion as per the notice/order and get complete waiver of interest and penalty. The Hon'ble Commissioner also discussed that the recommendation of The Bengal Chamber for implementing E-Invoice for B2C transactions under GST, was accepted and West Bengal was aligned to implement the same, even when recommendatory.

Mr Vivek Jalan, Chairperson of the National Fiscal Affairs and Taxation Committee of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry thanked the Hon'ble CST-WB for putting up various recommendations of The Bengal Chamber before the all-powerful GST Council. Members of The Chamber are truly thankful to the Department of SGST-WB for the same.

In the Technical Session, he deliberated on threadbare analysis of all notifications, circulars, rules, etc issues apropos the 54th GST Council Meeting, analysis of key recent amendments, cases and publications under GST, issues and proposals put forth by trade & industry and The Bengal Chamber before the GST Council.

The Technical Session was followed by a Panel Discussion on ‘Industry & Sectoral Analysis of Notifications, Circulars, Rules, etc, issued apropos the 54th GST Council Meeting & Other burning issues under GST’ and was moderated by Mr Vivek Jalan, Chairperson of the National Fiscal Affairs and Taxation Committee of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The other panelists were Mr Gurinder Singh, Head Indirect Taxes - L& T Construction; Mr Govind Mundhra, Head Taxation - Karam Chand Thapar Group.

The Panel Discussion was followed by Q&A Session. 

Around 250 delegates joined the Online Session.
