13th Edition of BCC&I GNIT Technology Quiz, 16th March 2024, Guru Nanak Institute of Technology Campus


The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized 13th edition of its annual signature Technology Quiz - Inter-College Quiz Fest 2024, in association with Guru Nanak Institute of Technology of JIS Group, on 16th March 2024 at the campus of Guru Nanak Institute of Technology (157/F, Nilgunj Road, Panihati, Sodepur, Kolkata, West Bengal 700114).

Quizzes are the best knowledge sharing and engagement platforms for youths. With this intent and endeavour, the Chamber had embarked on this initiative to reenergize youths (who are the future torch bearers of not only business, economy and society but also of the nation) about Quizzing.

Mr. Auritro Chowdhury was the Quiz Master. 

Shri Partha Sarathi Dam, Joint Secretary, IT & E Department, Government of West Bengal was invited. Industry leaders, from large and MSME companies, and startup owners were also invited to give an exposure to the students.

Mr Ashutosh Kumar, Deputy General Manager (Business and Operations), State Bank of India, Shri Sanjay Sinha, Assistant General Manager, Personal Banking Business Unit, LHO Kolkata, State Bank of India; Mr. Santosh Prasad, Partner & Service Line Lead; Hybrid Cloud Transformation, GIC, IBM Consulting; Mr Partha Sengupta, Senior Vice President(I3L) & Head of IT Shared Services, ITC Limited; Mr. Jayanta Kr. Saha, Founder and CEO, Softthink Intelligent Solutions Pvt. Ltd; Mr. Tanmoy Banerjee, Director, RT Network Solutions Pvt Ltd; Mr. Sourav Chakraborty, Co-Founder and CEO, SCONTO (Unicornfinity Technologies Pvt. Ltd.); Mr. Souriya Das, Co-Founder, Bongswag Apparel LLP. 

Ms Jaspreet Kaur, Director, JIS Group was present along with Dr Swarup Kumar Mitra, Principal, Gurunanak Institute of Technology and Dr. Adhish Kumar Chakraborty, Registrar, Guru Nanak Institute of Technology

256 students, in 128 teams, participated in the Quiz from various Colleges of West Bengal as well as the other States in Eastern India. Institutes like IIT Kharagpur, KIIT, IIM Calcutta, Techno India University, UEM Kolkata, Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Greater Kolkata College Of Engineering & Management, Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology, MAKAUT, NIT Jamshedpur, Heritage Institute of Technology among others.

The participants, who had made the cut for the final rounds were from:

  • Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (3 teams were finalists)
  • Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2 teams were finalists)
  • Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata

The team from IIM Calcutta (Mr Arnab Mandal and Mr Piyush Kedia) was the Winner, followed by KIIT University Bhubaneswar (Mr. Rohan Jayanti and Mr Anurag Samantaray) as 1st Runner Up and IIT Kharagpur (Mr. Ayush Sharma and Mr. Shobhyam Chakravarty) as 2nd Runner Up.

The Winners were awarded with a prize money of ₹ 30,000 along with trophy and medal. The 1st Runners Up were awarded with a prize money of ₹ 20,000 along with trophy and medal, while the 2nd  Runners Up had been awarded with the prize money of ₹ 10,000 along with trophy and medal.

The Chamber has successfully organized this Technology Quiz in the previous years from 2009 to 2024 in which for the past 6 editions it has associated with JIS Group. While the theme for the Quiz is ‘Technology’, the questions covered a wide spectrum of interest areas — with each question having a Technology angle but not necessarily oriented to technical issues/processes.
