Workshop on e-Waste Management – Awareness & Recycling Solution on 17th May 2024, The Bengal Chamber premises.


The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I) and Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM), Kolkata organized a day long workshop on e-Waste Management – Awareness & Recycling Solution on 17th May 2024 at the Chamber premises. 

Electronic waste (e-Waste) gets developed from the discarded electronic devices such as computers, smartphones, televisions & other electronic gadgets. Due to technological advancement, generation of such waste is increasing phenomenally throughout the world & is creating global threat on sustainability including India. 

Although there are rules & regulations in India for disposal of the e Waste, however awareness of the same its implementation is in very a low range. 

The objective of this workshop was to create awareness about e-Waste among industries and to upskill their knowledge about e-Waste Management and recycling solutions and Hazardous Waste Management.

Both West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) and West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation (WEBEL) provided support & encouragement for conducting this workshop. Dr. Rajesh Kumar, IPS, Member Secretary, WBPCB was the Chief Guest. Mr. Sambit Dasgupta, Deputy Director, BCC&I, Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Honorary Secretary, IIMM and Mr. Sudipto Basu, Chairman of MDP & Consultancy Services, IIMM were among others who graced the Inaugural Panel.

Other eminent speakers present in the workshop were, Mr. Anindya Banerji, SPOC, e-Waste Management, WBEIDC (WEBEL), Mr. Anjan Fouzdar, Environmental Engineer, Waste Management Cell, West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) and Dr T K Gupta , Chief Technical Advisor WBPCB.

The workshop witnessed over 70 participations from PSU’s and various private organizations like West Bengal E Waste Control Management Private Limited, WBPDCL, GRSE, DVC, Daichi International, Megatherm Induction Limited, Tata Steel, TSDPL, Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited, IOCL, Adani Wilmar Limited, Emami Agrotech etc. The workshop also witnessed paper presentations on e-Waste from the Academia and individual research scholars.

Few of the major topics covered were:

  1. Rules & EPR (Extended Producer Responsibilities) of e-Waste. 
  2. Awareness & execution sessions by renowned recyclers. 
  3. New dawn in West Bengal for e-Waste management. 
  4. Paper presentation on e-Waste management.
