B2B Meet at Andaman and Scuba in Havelock, 17th to 21st May 2024, Port Blair and Havelock


The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I), the oldest Chamber of Commerce in India, launched an initiative to promote sustainable and responsible tourism and stimulate local economic development through tourism in Andaman. The National Tourism Committee organized B2B meetings, interactions with MICE tour operators, and a meeting with Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in presence of   Shri Pranav Prakash, Regional Director, India Tourism, Kolkata, Ministry of Tourism Government of India to promote and execute the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India’s programmes like Dekho Apna Desh, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Yuva Tourism, and Travel for Life, scheduled from 17th to 21st May 2024 in Port Blair and Havelock Island. 

This initiative aims to foster large-scale behavioral change among tourists and businesses, advocating for a circular economy over the traditional "use-and-dispose" model. Collaborating with key stakeholders across various states and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Chamber encourages practices harmonious with nature, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like Decent Work and Economic Growth, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, and Life Below Water. Led by Mr. Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri and Mr. Subhodip Ghosh, the delegation participated in ethical scuba diving, jungle treks, and tidal walks, maximizing community involvement and minimizing automobile use. 

Discussions with Shri Keshav Chandra, Chief Secretary, of Andaman and Nicobar Islands highlighted upcoming tourism projects focusing on air connectivity, international flights, marketing policies, port connectivity, and skill development. The initiative, is co-supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and powered by Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd., with partners like Makruzz Ferries, Indigo Airlines, Sandersons & Morgans, Paradise Tours and Travels, Dive India, and Air India.

The B2B meet included 50 people, comprising delegates from Kolkata, Delhi, and Patna, along with local members of the Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indian Association of Tour Operators, Andaman Association of Tour Operators, Federation of Responsible Tour Operators, and Hoteliers Association of A&N Islands. The entire initiative received extensive coverage from leading digital and print media and electronic media.
